The Zigzag Path to KJMH Digital

I always knew I wanted to start my own business.

But people cautioned me that it’ll be an uphill battle without a strong network, valuable experiences, and refined skillset. So I put in the effort and years. It became increasingly clear to me that as a society we put specialists on a pedestal while cross-pollinators who have interdisciplinary experience and expertise are an after-thought.

I envisioned the future of work to be balanced with specialists and cross-pollinators, where people look out for win-win situations both internally and externally, an environment where companies can grow mindfully (instead of for growing sake), and stakeholders valuing what others bring to the table.

This innate desire to do marketing and business differently plus the misalignment between my internal and external worlds kept eating away at me. Friends noticed that I was on the cusp of burnout while the hustle culture made me hold it all together and keep going.

Until I couldn’t.

Then in late 2020, I came across Mayuki Chou, CEO of WStyle, and her IG content. I’ll share more about her at a later time but it was this quote from one of her books that inspired me (which I loosely translated): “Life is a journey filled with adjustments, we didn’t start off rushing towards our destination but rather through consistent exploration, we slowly get on our desired path. Make decisions based on your beliefs and take full responsibility for them. This is your life, make good decisions for yourself!”

It’s been a couple of months since I’ve launched KJMH Digital. Ever since the start, I’ve learned more in the last few months than before, from business operations to the creator economy. I’m excited for the possibilities ahead and can’t wait to experiment with new things. I’ve met and built relations with people from various backgrounds and walks of life that I feel reinvigorated. I’m in a state of calmness and happiness that I didn’t think would be possible.

It’s what I’d want to achieve through my business—helping other marketers find inner peace and joy again in the line of work that we do. A healthy lifestyle wouldn’t be possible if you work out sporadically and have an imbalanced diet. Let’s stop the same thing that’s plaguing marketing these days. It’s time for us to get organized and build foundations that bring clarity and confidence to move forward.

Life is too short to be working so hard and being mentally drained that we don’t get to enjoy it!
